SETTING UP THE AUTOMATIC TRAIN CHUFFER ATC MK1

Just a quick note to say that this board has been modified due to problems with the on board amp i.c &May appear slightly different to the one shown

You will find the following enclosed with your package

2 x PP3 alkaline batteries

1 x circuit board with the following wires attached to it, one pair of green wires(yours may be white wires) these connect to the engine wheels/track see below .one 66 mm loudspeaker on long gray wires the front of the speaker needs to be pointing to the front on the train if mounted in a carriage to give maximum effect as the train moves. One slide switch on long wires including screws to mount in a convenient place to turn the unit off & on and 2 pp3 battery snaps to connect the batteries to

There are only two things to worry about first you have to find away of connect the green wires to the wheel pickups as this will sense the track voltage some wagons /coaches have lights in then and these could be connected there or straight from the motor bogie if you can.

If you have a problem you can always contact for advice on this some LGB wagons have connection sockets for lights and these wires can be inserted in there

The next item is to set the track detection voltage.
on the circuit board there are two controls but only one with a finger shaft on adjust this until when the train moves off and it just starts to chug
Then as you turn up the voltage to the track so the chuff will alter once you happy with this pull the shaft out and put it in the other control on the circuit board for the volume.
if the above sounds difficult here’s the easy way that i have fitted these into wagons.
Do not put the unit in the train until the settings are done ,

HERE’S A TIP THAT THAT MOST PEOPLE HAVE USED TO SET THIS UNIT UP

MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAIN CONTROLLER IS SET TO THE LOWEST SETTING

CONNECT THE GREEN WIRES TO THE CONTROLLER WHERE THE CONTROLLER WIRES CONNECT TO THE TRACK SOME USE SCREW TERMINALS OTHERS USE PUSH FIT CONNECTIONS. IT WILL DEPEND ON YOUR MANUFACTURE.

CONNECT UP THE BATTERIES AND SWITCH UNIT ON WITH SWITCH A STEADY HISS OF STEAM SHOULD BE HEARD AFTER 10 SECONDS THE HISS WILL DROP IN VOLUME THIS IS CORRECT

PLACE THE ENGINE ON THE TRACK WITH ITS CARRIAGES AND SLOWLY TURN UP THE SPEED UNTIL THE ENGINE STARTS TO CRUEL ALONG

IF YOU HAVE TRIED TO SET YOUR UNIT UP ALREADY YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT THE FINGER SHAFT BACK INTO THE SPEED ADJUSTER IF NOT PROCEED AS FOLLOWS ADJUST THE CONTROL THAT HAS THE LITTLE BLACK SHAFT ON IT (FINGER CONTROL) SLIGHTLY AND THE UNIT SHOULD START TO CHUFF AS THE TRAIN IS CRAWLING ALONG

NOW USING THE TRAIN CONTROLLER INCREASE THE SPEED OF THE TRAIN AND THE CHUFF RATE WILL INCREASE SLOW THE TRAIN DOWN TO NEARLY A STOP AND THE CHUFF RATE WILL SLOW  IF ITS OUT OF SEQUENCE THEN ADJUST THE FINGER CONTROL A LITTLE MORE UNTIL YOU ARE HAPPY WITH IT.

ONCE HAPPY WITH CHUFF RATE

PULL OUT THE FINGER SHAFT AND INSERT IN OTHER CONTROL TO ADJUST VOLUME TO DESIRED SETTING.

Once set up and working correctly this is as real as it gets!
